Jonathan Rossman
Born
October 11, 1982, in Wantagh, New York, Jonathan Rossman grew up in the
New York Metropolitan area. From childhood on, Jonathan developed a deep
relationship with the piano, drums, clarinet, and alto saxophone. Moving
to New York City
in 2000, he attended New York University to study music with George Garzone,
Ralph Lalama, and Tony Moreno, and performed around the city with various
improvisational and experimental music ensembles including NYU’s
Composers Collective Ensemble. In Summer 2003 Jonathan participated in
the Banff artist residency
program in
Alberta, Canada, under the direction of Dave Douglas.
Jonathan has received an Award in Performance from the National Foundation
for Advancement in the Arts- Arts Recognition and Talent Search. He was the
recipient
of the Eubie Blake performance scholarship award, and the John Coltrane Scholarship
award.
Jonathan has recently completed a series of solo concerts in Europe including
a performance at the music festival in Paris, and has performed in world
class venues including Avery Fischer Hall at Lincoln Center, Saratoga Performing
Arts
Center, Tiles Center, Birdland, and Blue Note, and has been a featured artist
at music festivals such as the IAJE festival, the All-Eastern Conference
and the New York Brass Conference.
